Apple Fixes macOS Issue That Prevented Enabling or Disabling of iCloud Photos

"Recent iCloud issue affected a small number of users," says Apple

Update released alongside iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1

Apple has released an update for macOS that fixes an issue that prevented users from enabling or disabling iCloud Photos. The update, macOS 14.6.1, also includes other bug fixes and improvements.

The iCloud Photos issue was first reported by users on social media. Users said that they were unable to turn on or off iCloud Photos in the System Preferences. Apple has not said how many users were affected by the issue, but the company says that it was "a small number."

In addition to the iCloud Photos fix, macOS 14.6.1 also includes other bug fixes and improvements. These include:

  • Fixes an issue that caused the Dock to become unresponsive
  • Fixes an issue that caused the Finder to crash
  • Fixes an issue that caused Mail to quit unexpectedly
  • Improves the stability of Safari
  • Improves the performance of the App Store

macOS 14.6.1 is available as a free update for all users running macOS 14.6 or later. The update can be downloaded from the App Store.
