Early Life and Career

Laurentien van Rooijen was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1935. She started playing the piano at an early age and soon displayed exceptional talent. At the age of 16, she entered the prestigious Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Cor de Groot.

After graduating from the conservatory, van Rooijen began her professional career as a concert pianist. She performed extensively throughout Europe, earning critical acclaim for her virtuosity and musical sensitivity. In the 1960s, she began collaborating with the Dutch theater director Herman van Veen, creating groundbreaking works that combined music, theater, and poetry.
