Flash Flood Watch In Effect

Weather Warnings Issued for Central Texas

Flash Flood Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for Central Texas, including the Austin metro area. The watch is in effect from 4 p.m. CDT Wednesday, June 12, 2024, until 7 a.m. CDT Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Heavy Rain Expected

The NWS is forecasting heavy rain across the region, with some areas receiving up to 6 inches. The rain is expected to begin late Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday morning.

Residents are urged to be prepared for flash flooding. Flash flooding can occur quickly and without warning, so it is important to take precautions to stay safe.

If you must drive, do not cross flooded roads. Just 6 inches of water can cause a car to stall. If you see flooding, turn around and find another route.

Residents should also be aware of the following safety tips:

  • Have an emergency plan in place and know the evacuation routes for your neighborhood.
  • Gather essential supplies, such as food, water, and a first-aid kit.
  • Listen to local news and weather reports for updates on the storm.
  • Stay away from downed power lines and other hazards.
