Dubai Floods: Heaviest Rainfall in 75 Years

Torrential downpour causes chaos and evacuations

19 confirmed dead in neighboring Oman

The United Arab Emirates, home to the desert city of Dubai, experienced its heaviest rainfall in 75 years on Tuesday, triggering severe flooding and chaos across the country. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) reported that some areas received more than 100mm of rain in just a few hours.

The downpour led to widespread flooding in Dubai, with many roads becoming impassable. Dubai International Airport was forced to close for several hours, and hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled. The airport has since reopened, but delays are still expected. The NCM has warned that further rainfall is expected in the coming days.

Emergency services worked throughout the night to evacuate residents from flooded areas and provide assistance to those affected. There have been no reports of any deaths or serious injuries in Dubai, but neighboring Oman has confirmed 19 fatalities related to the flooding.

The heavy rainfall is a rare occurrence for the UAE, which typically experiences a dry and arid climate. The last time the country saw significant rainfall was in 2008, when flooding caused extensive damage and displaced thousands of people.
